a shared point of view

idlewild is cincinnati’s independent luxury fashion boutique — naturally, they’re obsessively customer-led.

co-owner tessa clark knows the women she dresses — what they reach for, what they’re missing, what they bought three seasons ago + what might actually earn the increasingly expensive real estate inside their closets.

then she takes that information directly into market.

overdressed + overanalyzed brings the research brain to the fitting room: consumer psychology, cultural analysis + an unreasonable amount of curiosity about not just what women wear, but why.

together, we’re making the thinking behind great retail visible — from buying + styling to designer discovery + the psychology of getting dressed.

part retail. part research. part fashion editorial.

and we’re doing it from cincinnati.

because a well-edited life doesn’t require a coastal zip code.

cincinnati has been quietly building a rather convincing case for itself as a fashion city.

DAAP develops designers who go on to work across the global fashion industry. Sew Valley gives independent designers access to small-batch, responsible production. the Cincinnati Art Museum just opened its first permanent gallery dedicated to fashion + textiles. and stores like idlewild give exceptional design somewhere to actually land.

the pipeline from cincinnati to fashion is already strong. we’re interested in making the return trip just as strong.

we can go to new york, sit front row, meet the designers, walk the showrooms + see what’s coming next — then bring the relationships, ideas + very good clothes home.

because the more time we spend participating in fashion elsewhere, the more convinced we become:

you don’t have to live at the center of an industry to meaningfully participate in it.

which is convenient.

we happen to really like it here.

what we’re building

consider this an ongoing field study in fashion, personal style + independent retail.

  • designer discoveries — who deserves more room in your fashion vocabulary.

  • behind the buy — how something earns its way from a showroom rack to your closet.

  • field notes — what we’re seeing at fashion week, market + inside the industry, thoroughly overanalyzed for your benefit.

  • the idlewild edit — things we’ve touched, tried + determined worthy of valuable closet real estate.

  • cincinnati, dressed — the people, places + creative energy making this a very good city to get dressed in.

we’ll do the fieldwork. you get the notes. subscribe to follow what we’re discovering, buying, overanalyzing + bringing home.
